Specific LSMP Activities
- YOU will initiate neighborhood contact with existing LCHC patients performing home visits with those patients not accessing routine care. You will help them to manage their chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes, providing education and other applicable exams in the patient’s home.
- YOU will experience direct patient care twice weekly shadowing a Lawndale clinician. You will see both adult and pediatric patients in multiple clinic settings while building insight into what it means to be a Christian serving the poor.
- YOU will participate in weekly community health fairs, offering various health screenings blood sugar and blood pressure checks.
What you will Learn on LSMP
Students who complete this project will gain an understanding about what it is like for a Christian physician serving the poor. This experience is a vocationally relevant training experience while trying to improve the health of patients not accessing routine health care.
Students will develop an understanding about what it’s like to live in an impoverished community in the United States and understand how people are affected by dire health disparities.
The LSMP is a leadership development and discipleship project designed to provide all participants with relevant, contextualized training in spiritual growth, evangelism and mentoring.
