Brent Michel - Director of Marketing & Communications

Brent Michel graduated from Wheaton College with a B.A. in Communications in 1997, obtaining a minor in Bible in the process. After dabbling in sports broadcasting, Brent decided against working nights, weekends, and holidays in favor of spending time with his family and to work with the youth of his neighborhood--at that time Uptown on the North Side of Chicago.

Brent transitioned to the consulting firm Accenture, where he was a media designer for marketing and training materials. Brent designed media for analog and digital environments, handling all areas of production. After seven years travelling the globe for Accenture, it was again time for change.

He now heads up a number of areas for LCHC, including marketing, training, and internal communications. Brent has worked to revamp the LCHC website, redesign most of LCHC's marketing materials, and also supervises the Patient Assistance Department. He also produces patient communications, such as the Fitness Center's monthly newsletter, "On Track," and does his best to encourage each of his fellow workers. He also serves Community Health Centers as a whole by participating in the Illinois Primary Health Care Association's Access to Care Committee.

Brent lives just a block from the clinic with his wife, Laura, and three children, Donovan, Sophia, and Emmitt. When not playing basketball at a neighborhood park, he can be found working with Lawndale youth through "Beyond the Ball", a non-profit he co-founded. Beyond the Ball teaches basketball and runs leagues in the Lawndale neighborhood, but beyond that, teaches life skills.

Brent also sits on the board of two other neighborhood organizations: Strategic Human Services, which prodcues the weekly newspaper North Lawndale Community News, and Neighborhood Housing Services, whose mission is to to offer Chicago residents affordable resources so they can buy, maintain, and sustain their home. Though Brent's broadcasting days are over, he remains a media critic.
