Pediatric Services
In addition to the comprehensive pediatric health care LCHC tenders to children, LCHC also offers comprehensive health support services to children and their families. These services focus mainly on the importance of well child care including immunization compliance, lead poisoning prevention and intervention and early detection of developmental delays. We offer the following services:

Meet the Pediatric Health Support Team.

Infants Under the Age of One Year Old
An infant’s first year of life is fundamental to his/her growth and development. During this time families are assigned to a pediatric health support worker who will assist patients with both medical and non-medical needs through education on such issues as immunization and breastfeeding, care coordination, brief counseling and effective coping skills. Health Support Workers also coordinate needed services for medical insurance, WIC (nutrition), food and clothing, transportation, housing, daycare, and childhood development education.

Developmental Screenings
What you teach from birth to three is what will matter most to me! LCHC offers developmental screenings to patients and children in the community between the ages of four months and five years. Early detection is key in appropriate intervention.

Parenting Discussion Groups (Regarding Children Birth to Five Years Old)
We offer free parenting discussion groups lead by trained instructors. Discussion groups are geared toward caregivers with children to discuss the joys, trials and tribulations of parenthood. Topics discussed include well child care, developmental milestones, discipline, nutrition, potty training and parental stress. We offer a safe environment for open discussions.

Lead Poisoning and Intervention

Chicago has almost as many lead-poisoned children as the next nine top cities combined. Furthermore, the community area LCHC serves has at least double the amount of lead poisoned children compared to city averages. Visit the Chicago Department of Public Health for more information on childhood lead poisoning.

Low to moderate levels of lead poisoning in children cause reduced IQ, reading and learning disabilities, behavior problems, impaired growth and hearing loss. Services are available to children with lead poisoned, at-risk for exposure and their families. Our program consists of:

  • One-on-one education on nutrition and hazard reduction in the home or clinic environment
  • Home environmental assessments
  • Care coordination of medical and other support services
  • LCHC's prevention program consists of lead education to pregnant women.

  • Environmental assessments are completed in the homes of pregnant women and homes that have significant lead hazards are referred to programs that help families abate and/or mitigate the hazards by providing forgivable loans.

    Outreach Services
In our mission’s pursuit, we offer free outreach services to local organizations. The services we provide are centered on well child care and are tailored to fit the needs of the organization. Some of the services we provide are educational presentations, blood lead tests, immunization record audits, and developmental screenings.
